Semen Analysis

Semen analysis is performed on-site, standardized to WHO 2010 criteria. In addition, Novavita is one of the few MSP accredited laboratories in Vancouver to provide access to a clean, private facility for on-site semen collection, allowing rapid analysis. When specimens are collected remotely then transported to the lab, inaccuracies in results may occur due to delays from specimen transportation. Producing the specimen on-site ensures a timely analysis and accurate results.

For patients who wish to collect the specimen at home, that option is available, but it is strongly recommended that the specimen is delivered to the laboratory within 30 minutes.

When requested by a BC physician, the cost of the semen analysis is covered by MSP. For blood work, please call the laboratory to book an appointment.

BOOKING TIMES

We have a limited number of appointments per day for semen analysis and sperm DNA fragmentation. Appointments are required for specimen collection on-site or drop-off.

Please bring your care card and requisition from the physician for semen analysis appointments.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SEMEN ANALYSIS

Please read the instructions for semen analysis before booking your appointment. Patients without a valid personal health number (PHN) or care card number will have to pay for the test upon arrival. If you are not an Olive Fertility Clinic patient, please bring a requisition from your physician. Patients without requisitions from a BC physician will be charged for the semen analysis. Sterile containers are available at Novavita Laboratory or any Lifelabs' location for drop-off specimens.

Late Arrival

In our efforts to make your visit more comfortable and to minimize your wait time, our lab has implemented a late arrival policy. If a patient is more than 30 minutes late for an appointment, the appointment may need to be rescheduled.  This is to ensure that the patients who arrive on time do not wait longer than necessary. All patients are encouraged to arrive at the lab at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment to complete any required paperwork.  We appreciate your compliance and understanding with this policy so that we can continue to provide excellent customer service.

Appointment Cancellation

A full 48 hours’ notice is required for cancelling appointments. If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, contact our lab at 604-336-2090 or info@novavitalaboratory.com. Since appointments are in high demand, your prompt cancellation will give another patient the opportunity to access timely medical care.
